Cottages Location

The cottages are located in South Devon in North Sands in the town of Salcombe.

Salcombe is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  North Sands has a beach, park and an excellent restaurant and brasserie.

A 15-20 minute walk along Cliff Road brings you to the hustle and bustle of Salcombe. This is a lovely scenic walk in the mornings as you go to the Bake House Bakery (formerly known as The Upper Crust ) to buy your patisserie and the newspapers (Bonningtons) or, on clear nights, a star and satellite-gazing amble in the evenings on the way back from the restaurants and pubs.

Over the hill, behind the cottages, lies South Sands beach (also a 15-20 min walk) with the South Sands ferry service to town (seasonal), Overbecks National Trust museum and clifftop walks beyond. There are also bars and restaurants in the hotels in the bay.

Getting there

By Car

Follow the M5 or A303 to Exeter, then follow the A38 to Plymouth (The Devon Expressway). Turn off A38 at Totnes turn, following signs to Kingsbridge and then Salcombe. If you miss this turn-off take the 'Yealmpton' turn following signs to Loddiswell, Kingsbridge and Salcombe. On entering Salcombe ignore signs to the town centre and take the turn signposted to North Sands and Overbecks. Travel down the zig-zags of Sandhills Road to enter the North Sands valley. Cross the valley and we are located on the sharp bend on the road as it starts to rise to take you over to South Sands.

By Train : London Paddington to Totnes (40 min drive or local buses to Salcombe)

By Plane : Exeter or Bristol Airport + hire car or taxi.

General food shopping

In town there is a Spar in Loring Rd and the CO-OP in Gould Road, at the head of Island Street.  Elsewhere there is an ASDA at the garage in Malborough and supermarkets in Kingsbridge (20 min drive).  Alternatively some guests shop online via Sainsbury’s, Tesco or Waitrose for home delivery to the cottages.  During the busier part of the season note that delivery slots get booked up weeks in advance.

Other stores include: The Salcombe Meat Company, located in the West End garage forecourt at the entrance to Salcombe and Ashby’s general/farm store, betwixt Salcombe and Malborough.
